From the Middle Ages...

The first evidence of settlement of the estate was found in the remains of a moated castle that belonged to the knights of Kletkamp since 1253. The location near the Baltic Sea and the medieval trade routes will have played just as much a role in the choice of location as the fertile soil and the fertile forests of Holstein Switzerland.
In the 14th century, the estate became the property of the Cistercian monastery Reinfeld and then served as a noble estate for the Count of Rantzau from 1387 to 1612. In 1612, the property passed through marriage to the Counts of Brockdorff, who have had their headquarters here continuously for over 400 years now.

Unique manor house

During dendrochronological investigations of the ceiling beams in the 1970s, it was found that the core building of the manor house dates back to 1547, making it the oldest manor house in Schleswig-Holstein.
In 1676, an impressively projecting, white-plastered, five-storey central building was added to the building by Cai Lorenz von Brockdorff on the courtyard side, which is unique in its architecture among the Holstein types of manor houses.

Fire and Sponge

The distinctive tower of the manor house was completely destroyed by fire in 1952. Since the rest of the house, partly standing in a moat, was also heavily infested with sponge, the Brockdorff family decided in the mid-90s to comprehensively renovate the building used as a hotel at that time. After five years of renovation work, the manor house has now been back in its former glory since 2004 - and the tower also crowns the impressive façade again.

The “Old Gatehouse”

To get to the estate, you cross the archway of the “Old Gate House”. Dating from 1775, the elongated building with its richly ornamented masonry and small bell tower is one of the most beautiful in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
Today, the gatehouse houses an exclusive holiday apartment and the so-called “fish hall”, where carp from the Kletkamp lakes were sold at Christmas time until a few years ago.

Horses & parties

Until 2006, horses were kept at Gut Kletkamp for the estate's cavalry and carriages. The “Old Horse Stable” and the “Old Riding Hall”, which were extensively restored between 2011 and 2013 and today offer a fantastic backdrop for weddings, birthdays and events of all kinds, bear witness to this. The historically modernized buildings offer space for events of up to 300 people and the technical framework for catering, bar service and event technology is of course also available.
